Entry Level Writing Requirement
Summer Session 2008
Instruction and practice
in basic writing for those students needing to satisfy the Entry Level Writing Requirement. Emphasis is on reading and writing argumentative
prose. Students are asked to read and discuss numerous short
essays, and are required to respond through the submission of
organized, fluent, and mechanically correct essays. Though essentially
a workshop, the course may include lectures, exercises, tutorials,
debates, or student presentations. Students who achieve a grade
of "C" or better in the course, and who also pass the
Exit Exam that concludes the course, will thereby satisfy the Entry Level Writing Requirement.
Prerequisite: Open only to students who
have taken (and failed) the Analytical Writing Placement Exam. If students
are designated by this examination as needing English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) instruction, they may not enroll in Basic Writing.
